MODEL CITIZEN 2017: My Favorite Models of the Year

I decided to create this annual blog series called "Model Citizen" where I will talk about models that I personally like from that year due to the moves they have made both in the modeling industry and in everyday life.

This year I chose (from top left to bottom left) Justine Biticon, Leomie Anderson, Alanna Arrington, and Suede Brooks. I hope you enjoy my blog post!

JUSTINE BITICON

Hypebae

What can I say other than representation, representation, representation. When I was watching the newest season of America's Next Top Model and I saw Justine competing, I so badly wanted her to win as I wasn't used to seeing her look represented in the fashion world and was excited for that to change. Luckily, she was booted off the first episode and went on to sign with Ford Models and became a face for Nike Women.

Instagram

I chose Justine to be a Model Citizen because she is really out here trying to bring diversity to the industry and stirring up the discussion. Even as a black woman, I still heavily identify with this bomb af Filipina/Mexican model as any person of color in the modeling industry is representation in my eyes. I can't wait to see where her career goes. I'm routing for you Justine!

LEOMIE ANDERSON

HawtCelebs

Leomie, one of my favorite Victoria's Secret angels, has been a force to reckon with. Not only has she been slaying the vs runway and about each and every red carpet she hits- serving endless looks- and even was a face for Fenty Beauty this year, she has also been a voice for social change.

CelebMafia

Covering topics such as cultural appropriation in the fashion industry, eating disorders for people of color, domestic abuse, depression, racism in the modeling industry, lgbtq+ issues, trump's America, revenge porn and more with her website, blog, and store LAPP the Brand, Anderson uses her platform to discuss issues young women face in today's society.

Twitter

I chose Leomie to be a Model Citizen because she uses her influence to talk about important issues in today's world that many other celebrities fail to address and I really appreciate that. You go Leomie!

ALANNA ARRINGTON

Elle

Alanna, another one of my favorite Victoria's Secret models has honestly taken the fashion world by storm. She's been in editorials upon editorials and has graced many fashion week runway shows. Not to mention, she also kills it with her street style (p.s. her vs pink carpet outfit was ABSOLUTELY KILLER this year).

What I love about Alanna is her personality. In what can easily be a very 2 dimensional job, Arrington has managed to show the world that she is cool, funny, and probably someone you would want to be best friends with.

Fashnberry

I love how real she keeps it, from sharing her struggle of not being able to enjoy a burger before the vs show to making an effort to talk to her fans over live streams. Alanna honestly makes my world happier with her existence and I praise that. Don't stop being awesome Lana!

SUEDE BROOKS

Instagram

Suede, at the age of 16, is doing so much in the fashion industry. She has been a part of many creative projects and campaigns- partnering with the likes of Marc Jacobs, Betsey Johnson, and Fucci all the way to starring in campaigns for brands such as Boohoo. Brooks has managed to make herself an icon while still staying close to her fanbase through her unfiltered YouTube videos, maintaining her humanity.

I chose Suede to be a Model Citizen because she continues to advocate for the whole reason she started YouTube and modeling: bullying. Suede, after being viciously bullied as a kid, advocates for the end of bullying, doing this by doing things such as going to schools to give presentations and speak with them about the issue. Suede also uses her influence to help other causes such as disaster relief and lgbtq+ rights. I commend Brooks on using her celebrity to help greater causes and I'm excited for what the future holds for her!

And that concludes my Model Citizen list! I hope you liked my post! Subscribe if you want to hear more from me and my blog on my homepage.
